Pehowa (ancient Prithudak), on the Saraswati in Kurukshetra district, is Haryana's foremost place for rites for the dead. On Chaitra badi chaudas families come for pind-daan and shraddh at the Saraswati ghat, and the town's pandas keep genealogy registers going back generations. The fair is one of the oldest in the state.
